Roy Hodgson hints Marcus Rashford could make England’s Euro 2016 squad

England boss Roy Hodgson has hinted that Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford is in contention to make his squad for Euro 2016.

Rashford has enjoyed a blistering start to his Man United career, scoring four goals in three appearances since making his debut against FC Midtjylland last week.

Two of those goals came against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday, meaning Rashford has been placed firmly in the spotlight. Hodgson suggested the youngster is in his thinking ahead of the Euros.
“I would neither rule him in or rule him out, I just hope he can do well,” Hodgson said.

“I have been watching Rashford for two years, so I have known about him for a long time. He is in our system. Most of all, I hope he is allowed to develop as an 18-year-old should and people don’t try to put him under enormous pressure. Scoring four goals in three games is a great achievement. If he can keep that up, it is great for Manchester United and England.”

For Hodgson to hint that Rashford could make the squad before saying people shouldn’t put him under pressure is a tad contradictory.

Hodgson’s comments will have inevitably added pressure on Rashford’s shoulders. He is no longer an unknown quantity and supporters will expect him to deliver. That being said, the young man seems to have his head screwed on the right way.
