Zinedine Zidane insists Real Madrid’s “attitude” was to blame for their derby defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Defeat at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday has left Madrid 12 points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, with Zidane admitting that the title race is all but over.
The loss also sparked an outburst from Cristiano Ronaldo towards his team-mates, but Zidane has dismissed claims that his players are not losing crucial key games due to a lack of conditioning.
“We're doing well physically,” said the Madrid boss.
“For me, the defeat in the derby is not a question of fitness.
“That Atletico ran more than us is just data, for me we're doing well physically. It's other things.
“We have to win our battles. We lost a lot of battles. I see the team improving and we are still going to improve more, too.
“I don't know if I'm convincing you... Yes, it's an attitude problem. What we have to do is make sure it doesn't happen again.”
