Zombieland 2 Is Still In Development
While basking in the success of Deadpool, screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were asked about the possibility of a Zombieland sequel.
"It’s actually still in development over at Sony," Reese told The Q & A podcast (via Cinema Blend). "They’ve had a couple writers take a crack at it. We’re still exec producers and we’re guiding and helping where we can. I think there’s still very much talk about it, but I think it has to be right. I think all the actors and [original Zombieland director] Reuben [Fleischer] all feel like there’s no reason to do it again if we’re not getting it exactly right."
They wrote the 2009 cult-hit that was directed by Ruben Fleischer and starred Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin surviving in a zombie-infested world. For several years after its release, there was talk of a sequel, but it never materialized. What did materialize was Amazon Studios ordering a pilot for a TV show based on the property, which was also written by Reese and Wernick. One month after the pilot was released in April 2013, Amazon chose not to order it to series.
